Active RFID tags leverage battery power to capture the attention of readers, which in turn deciphers the identity and location of the tag. On the other hand, passive RFID systems use high-powered readers that emit low-frequency RF signals that trigger antennas on tags that B&G provides, causing the tag and the reader to communicate. One of the main differences between the two is that active RFID tags have a range of about 100 feet, while passive RFID tags need to be about 1.5 meters from the reader in order to work effectively. This makes the active option ideal for large warehouses, but they understandably come at a higher cost.
